The U.S. Mint 1990 Prestige Proof Set, includes a Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, Kennedy Half Dollar, and the 1990 U.S. Eisenhower Centennial Silver Dollar. The special Silver Dollar commemorates the 100th Anniversary of World War II General and former President Dwight D. Eisenhower's birth. The Eisenhower Silver Dollar was exclusively minted in 1990. It was struck using 90% Silver, having a total actual Silver weight of .7734 ounces. The other silver-look coins, i.e. the dime, quarter, and half dollar, are of a clad composition. Given today's silver price of a bit over $30 per ounce, the Silver Dollar by itself has a current melt value of roughly $23-$24. The Prestige Proof Set's coin presentation case is contained and protected by a U.S. Mint-designed outer carton. The offered outer carton shows two or three flaws, including what appears to be another object's rectangular impression in the lid (see photo). There is a scratch and a couple of nicks in the surface, as well. The coins and presentation case are in very nice condition, with the Silver Dollar displaying some toning/discoloration around its outer perimeter (see photo). The offered set does not include a COA. The U.S. Mint Prestige Proof Sets, which were exclusively struck by the San Francisco Mint in 1990, are known for their impressive mirror-like finish and the inclusion of the differing annual Commemorative coins. These U.S. Mint Prestige Proof Sets make a great gift and/or make a terrific addition to any U.S. coin collection.
